Fees & Insurance FAQs
A few common questions about counselling fees, extended health benefits and insurance coverage.
Will my insurance cover counselling?
Many extended health benefit plans include coverage for counselling or mental health services. Coverage varies by plan, including which professional counselling designations are eligible and how much coverage is available each year. We recommend checking the details of your individual plan before booking.
How do I know which Trueself counsellor my plan covers?
Our counsellors hold different professional designations, including MPCC, RCC, CCC and RTC. Your insurance plan may cover one or more of these designations. Check your benefits booklet or contact your insurance provider and ask which counselling credentials are included in your plan.
If you're unsure, you're welcome to contact us before booking and we'll help you identify which counsellor credentials to ask your provider about.
Do you offer direct billing?
Direct billing may be available for eligible plans and counsellors. Availability depends on your insurance provider, your individual benefit plan and the professional designation of the counsellor you see.
If direct billing is not available, we can provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement, where eligible.
What if my insurance doesn't cover my counsellor?
Because our team includes counsellors with different professional designations, another Trueself counsellor may have a credential that is covered by your plan. If insurance coverage is important to you, let us know and we can help you explore your options before you book.
Can I use my benefits for online counselling?
Many benefit plans cover eligible virtual counselling sessions in the same way they cover in-person sessions, but coverage depends on your individual plan. We recommend confirming virtual counselling coverage directly with your insurance provider.
Important: Insurance coverage and reimbursement are determined by your individual benefits plan. We recommend confirming your coverage directly with your insurance provider before your first session.
